Dennis woke up, it was light all around and a marshmallow warmth surrounded him. It was central heating and the smell of bacon, eggs and fried paradise.

Bacon meant he had fucked up and his wife was going to make him pay, in her own way of course. He knew it would come up again, rocket fuel for time and time again…It was a thing he had no control over. Grin and bear it or kick out at the world and watch it beat him down.

She whistled a familiar tune. Jovial and melancholy at the same time.

Dennis hated that he knew her kindness would be used against him, but over time, he was complacent with her and knew how it would all end.

His wife was never angry, passive aggressive to the point of toxicity perhaps…poison to the touch at her most volatile but angry-shouty-stabby-chucky-plates in his direction she was not.

Words were words were words…

“Hungry?” She asked appearing in the doorway. The smell idyllic. “The kids are out and I thought you’d like a cup of hot chocolate.”

His head was fine, he was parched, could drink the ocean dry while supping on the stars…his wife must have force fed him some ibuprofen as he slept.

Was that love?
